A striking Victorian mansion housing interesting collections and the brand new 'Luton Life' exhibition funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (opens Dec 2002). This focuses on the last 150 years, covering the famous hat trade, the motor industry, the airport etc. Other museum highlights include a nationally important lace collection, the largest hoard of 1stC Roman gold coins ever found and the newly refurbished Beds. and Herts. Regimental Gallery, plus a dynamic programme of temporary exhibitions. There is free parking and admission, a gift shop and small tea room.
